Zinc Alloys for Die Casting: ZP3, ZP5, ZP2, ZP8
Zinc alloys for die casting
Micrometal works exclusively with primary zinc alloys (zamak) for hot chamber die casting. The choice of the right alloy is fundamental to obtain a die casting with the required mechanical, aesthetic and dimensional properties.
ZP3 – Zamak 3
ZP3 is the most widely used zinc alloy in die casting, offering an excellent balance of mechanical properties, dimensional stability and castability. It is ideal for components requiring good surface finish and moderate mechanical resistance. Most of Micrometal’s production uses ZP3.
ZP5 – Zamak 5
ZP5 has a higher copper content than ZP3, which gives it greater hardness and tensile strength. It is used for components subject to higher mechanical stresses, such as lock bodies and structural components.
ZP2 – Zamak 2
ZP2 is the alloy with the highest mechanical strength in the zamak family. Used for applications requiring maximum hardness and wear resistance, it is less common but essential for specific technical applications.
ZP8 – Zamak 8
ZP8 offers superior dimensional stability over time and excellent surface finish. It is preferred for components that will undergo galvanic treatments such as chrome plating or nickel plating.
