Zamak Die Casting for Fashion, Leather and Accessories
Buckles, decorative components, hardware for handbags, belts and luxury accessories
Zamak die casting for the fashion and leather goods industry
Since 1991, Micrometal has produced zamak (zinc alloy) die-cast components for the leading Italian and European fashion and leather goods brands. Zinc alloy die casting is the technology of choice for hardware, buckles, decorative components, hardware for handbags, belts, leather accessories, and luxury accessories that require premium aesthetics, precise dimensions, and consistent finishing for galvanic plating (chrome, gold, ruthenium, PVD).
Our 75,000 kg/month production capacity on 11 machines serves both small luxury brands (5,000-30,000 pcs/year per SKU) and global fashion groups (over 200,000 pcs/year on top sellers). The 20-30 tonne tonnage of our Agrati Z line is ideal for fashion micro-components from 5 to 50 grams.
Zamak components for the fashion industry: our products
Our zamak production for the fashion sector covers the full range of metal hardware for premium leather goods and accessories:
- Buckles for belts and handbags — classic and contemporary designs, ZP3 alloy with chrome, gold, ruthenium, or PVD finish
- Logo plates and brand badges — custom geometries with brand engravings, polished or satin finish
- Closures, snap hooks, and zipper pulls — high-precision functional components subjected to thousands of opening cycles
- Decorative studs, eyelets, and rivets — for handbags, jackets, footwear, with bespoke shapes and finishes
- Chains and decorative elements — hand-assembled mini-components for luxury accessories
- Bag feet, corners, and protective hardware — high-wear functional components in ZP5 alloy for added strength
- Buttons, rings, and brand-specific custom hardware — co-designed with the customer’s style office
Why zamak is the standard for fashion hardware
The fashion sector requires hardware that combines premium perceived quality, durability, and ability to receive high-end galvanic finishes. Zamak has been the global reference for fashion hardware for over 80 years for these reasons:
- Surface finish Ra 0.8 µm straight from the mold — ideal substrate for chrome plating, gold plating, ruthenium, PVD, with minimal preparation cost
- Density 6.7 g/cm³ — perceived weight associated with luxury, vs lightweight plastic perceived as low-end
- Geometric complexity — zamak die casting allows undercuts, fine details, and contemporary geometries impossible with brass machining or plastic injection
- Cost efficiency — for medium-high volumes, zamak has lower total cost than brass or stainless steel for comparable aesthetic finish
- Color stability — chromed/PVD finishes maintain appearance for 10+ years of normal use
- RoHS/REACH compliance — essential for the European fashion supply chain
- 100% recyclability — increasingly important for sustainable fashion brands
From design to delivery: the Micrometal flow for fashion
Fashion projects often start from a sketch by the brand’s style office and need to evolve into a series-producible component. Our DFM team works directly with style offices to translate the original design while preserving the aesthetic intent. The flow includes alloy selection, mold filling simulation, prototype on rapid tooling, validation FAI, and serial production with 100% quality control on aesthetic surfaces. Galvanic finishes are coordinated through selected partners with strict aesthetic acceptance plans.
