How the Micrometal zamak die casting quote works
Micrometal has been producing zamak (zinc alloy) die-cast components EN 12844 ZP3, ZP5 and ZP2 since 1991, with a fleet of 11 machines including standalone hot-chamber presses and Frech DAW 80 robotic cells, a production capacity of 75,000 kg/month, and operating tonnage from 20 to 90 tons. When you receive a quote from us, the figure is grounded in our actual machinery and current raw-material costs, not a generic estimate.
The quoting process unfolds in four simple steps. You upload the technical drawing (STEP, IGES or ZIP up to 50 MB) and complete the essential fields in the form below. Our internal engineering office receives the request and evaluates feasibility, the most suitable alloy, and tooling assumptions. Within 24-48 working hours you receive an email with a preliminary quote covering unit price, mold cost, recommended MOQ and lead times. If the project moves forward, we schedule a technical call to validate critical tolerances and finalize the offer.
What to include in your request for an accurate quotation
To shorten the cycle and get a reliable price on the first pass, the drawing is the mandatory starting point. Without a STEP or IGES file we cannot properly assess mass, thin walls, undercuts, dimensional tolerances, and surface finish. Beyond the drawing, it helps to share the annual volume (even as a range: prototype, up to 10,000 pieces, 10,000-50,000, 50,000-200,000, over 200,000), any required surface treatments such as chrome plating, powder coating, nickel plating or blackening (see our complete zamak die casting guide for standard options), industry certifications needed (IATF 16949 in roadmap, ISO 9001 already in place — details on certifications), and the application sector of the component (fashion, electronics, automotive, lighting, sanitary, security). The more information you provide, the more accurate our quote.
What happens after you submit the request
Once you click “Submit Quote Request”, the file and the data are routed directly to our internal engineering office, which works closely with mold and production specialists. Acknowledgement is within 4 working hours; within 24-48 working hours you receive an email with our preliminary technical evaluation. If the part is producible as drawn, we attach the indicative quotation. If it requires Design For Manufacturing (DFM) revisions, we propose the minimum changes needed to make it industrializable in zamak die casting, avoiding defects such as unmanageable undercuts, walls that are too thin, or tolerances unrealistic for the process. Selecting the right alloy (ZP3, ZP5 or ZP2) depends on required performance: ZP3 covers about 90% of standard applications, ZP5 when higher mechanical strength is needed, ZP2 for specific high-stress cases.
FAQ — Common questions about quotations
How much does a quote cost? The Micrometal quote is free and with no commitment. We do not charge for the preliminary technical evaluation, even if the project does not move forward.
How long does it take to receive the quotation? Within 24-48 working hours of submission. For particularly complex parts requiring mold filling simulations, up to 5 working days may be needed: in that case we contact you immediately to agree the timing.
What file formats do you accept? STEP (.step / .stp), IGES (.iges / .igs) and ZIP containing one of these formats. Maximum size is 50 MB. PDFs and 2D drawings can be attached as a complement but do not replace the 3D model.
Is my technical data safe? Yes. We treat drawings and data with the strictest confidentiality. On request we sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before receiving the file. Our Privacy Policy guarantees that submitted information is not shared with third parties.
Is there a minimum order quantity (MOQ)? For serial production the typical MOQ is 5,000-10,000 pieces/year to amortize the mold cost. For prototypes and sampling there is no MOQ: we run batches of 1 to 100 pieces for technical validation using rapid tooling or prototype molds.
Can I visit the plant before assigning a project? Absolutely. The plant is in Erbusco (Brescia, Italy), open Mon-Fri 8:00-17:00 CET. We can arrange a tour of the die casting shop, the quality control area, and the zamak die casting process in operation.
