Micrometal produces die-cast zamak components for furniture manufacturers and the lighting industry. Die casting takes place in our zamak foundry in Erbusco (Brescia), Italy.

How we engineer a furniture or lighting component
Handles, knobs, lamp bases and joints, visible hinges: here the surface matters most. ZP3 reproduces design details and radii well and takes high-quality galvanic finishes; the weight of zamak gives the part the feel of a solid metal object.
In the design we look after the visible surfaces: gates and ejector pins placed away from aesthetic areas, uniform walls to avoid sink marks, generous radii that the finish covers better.
Finishes — bright or satin chrome, brass plating, gold plating, painting — are applied by our partners on the parts we die-cast. For lamp components that heat up, zamak works well up to about 100 °C in service; above that another material is assessed.
The mould is designed by our technical office and made under our direct supervision; it remains the customer’s property and is guaranteed for 400,000 shots produced on our presses. Every batch is traceable and dimensional checks are carried out on our in-house CMM, with initial sampling (PPAP/EMPB) on request.
FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
Is zamak suitable for lamp components that get hot?
Yes, up to a service temperature of about 100 °C. For hotter parts close to the light source another material is better: we tell you when we review the drawing.
Where do gate marks end up on an aesthetic part?
We design them away from visible surfaces, together with the ejector layout, and agree them with you on the drawing before the mould is built.
What furniture components are made from zamak?

Does zamak allow premium aesthetic finishes?
Zamak is the ideal material for decorative finishes: polished chrome, satin, gold plating, powder coating and antique finish.

Perfectly suitable. Zamak allows complex decorative geometries, resists heat generated by lighting systems and offers excellent surface finish.
